Introduction. In this blog post I will be looking at a few images and choose some to be included in my table of contents. If necessary, I will also edit them and document the process and which pictures I ultimately choose for the final product and why.
Technology Used to Edit Images
I used Adobe Lightroom to edit my pictures. Lightroom is a cloud-based service that gives you everything you need to create, edit, organize, store, and share your photos across any device. This app is free on my phone so it was easy to use.
General Process
I entered the app and added the image I wanted to edit from my camera roll into the "library" section. After clicking the picture, I went to the different categories of editing and used the more specific tools to change the picture.
Photo Selection Process
Most images in travel magazine table of contents pages are of locations that correlate with the article they are either next to or linked to by a page number. For this reason, I have chosen to take a few of my landscape images that I took and edit them to fit my genre's conventions.

Why I Chose It
I chose this image because it is a very well-known place in the state of Florida. Many events are held here including RV showings, boat shows, and gun shows, along with the annual Florida State Fair. This is a good place to talk about in the magazine because there are many things to be said about it. It will attract the attention not only of tourists, but also local residents of Tampa, Florida, where the State Fairgrounds are located.
Editing
I changed the "Contrast" to -35 and the "Highlights" to 45 because I wanted to change the proportions of light and dark in the image. To balance out the effects of those changes, which made the picture lighter, I decreased the "Blacks" to -15 because it was too dark without the change.
I only slightly increased the tint to 5 because I wanted to give it a cooler feel so I moved the slider to the purple side. To make the colors that are already in the image brighter, I made the "Vibrance" to 25 and the "Saturation" to 70.
I did not change anything in the "Effects" category except the "Dehaze" tool as the image did not need to become more texturized or clarified since it was good enough already. I moved the slider to 65 for "Dehaze" to make the details of the image sharper.

Why I Chose It
I chose this image because travel magazines not only have pictures of places, but also activities people can do in those locations. Air-ballooning is an activity that many tourists participate in when they visit new places so I chose this image because I can link it to an article talking about air-ballooning in Turkey.
Editing
I turned the "Contrast" to 100 and decreased the "Highlights" to -20. I also changed the "Whites" to 35 and the "Blacks" to -65. This is all to increase the differences between the dark and light parts of the image and make them more dramatic.
I decreased the "Temperature" to -15 and moved the "Tint" to 10. I wanted to emphasize the different colors of the sky and make them more vibrant. This is also why I increased the "Vibrance" to 15 and the "Saturation" to 100. All of these changes add a cooler feeling and make the sky brighter.

Why I Chose It
I chose this image because it is an intricate version of an archway which matches the theme of my main cover, because my main image is also of an arch. I can use this image to lead into the topic of what is on the other side and the history of the arch itself.
Editing
I wanted to make the image a little darker so I moved the "Contrast" to 35, the "Highlights" to -35 and the "Shadows" to 35. Moving the "Blacks" to -100 also dramatically increased the visible difference between the light and dark parts of the image. It also made the picture in general a little darker.
I increased the "Vibrance" to 55 and the "Saturation" to 20 to make the colors that are in the image already brighter. This will draw more attention to the trees and the contrast of the darker sky against the much lighter building.

Why I Chose It
I chose this image because it looks like a historical location. Places that are old and have a lot of history are interesting to talk about and learn about. This would make the image a good starting point for an article that is not lacking in information and that is not filled with fluff to make it look longer. It will also intrigue readers enough that they will want to see the story that goes along with it.
Editing
The only thing I changed is the "Vibrance." I increased it to 41 because it makes the different shades of brown, tan, and gray of the building more pronounced. It also makes the grass on the steps against the brown of the ground more obvious.
I increased the "Texture" to 30 to make the lines and details of the building and stairs more obvious. This also aids in leading the viewer's eye upward from the stairs to the actual building which makes it seem as if the person actually walked up there like that. I changed the "Dehaze" to 15 so it is not as blurry.

Article Titles
1. "5 Things to do in Turkey" - many of my images were taken in Turkey so I can talk about some of the things we did there when we went.
2. "History of the Dubai Frame" - my main image is of the Dubai Frame and many times, the main picture is connected to one of the articles in the magazine.
3. "Why Dubai is the Best Place to go Shopping" - one of my coverlines is "A Taste of Luxury" which hints at the wealthy lifestyle that is often seen in Dubai. This leads one to believe their stores are also very nice and of good quality.
4. "Visit the Tallest Skyscraper in the World" - one of my coverlines is "Tallest Skyscraper in the World" and the Burj Khalifah is located in Dubai. I can talk about its history or how it was made.
5. "Gravity-defying Fun in Turkey" - one of pictures depicts air-ballooning in Turkey so I can talk about that and other similar activities.
6. "The Tampa Florida State Fair" - one of my pictures shows the entrance to the Florida State Fair and since I live in the city it is located in, I can talk a lot about the many different rides they offer at the fair.
Descriptions
Travel magazines usually include brief descriptions of the articles included in the magazine on the table of contents pages. Since this is also helpful and practical for the readers to understand what they are reading, I will also include descriptions of my articles in my table of contents page.
Type of Voice and Language Used
First it is important to write a really good first paragraph. You need to grab the reader's attention and to do that, you need an introduction to draw the audience in. Travel magazines talk about a location, and the best way to persuade someone into reading an article is to help the person visualize the destination in their mind, it is best to use vivid language to describe a person's surroundings. Features in travel magazines are usually as descriptive as possible to help the audience build a picture of the scene as they're talking about.
Two-page Spread
The article I will probably use for the two-page spread is "Florida State Fair" because the fairgrounds are near me so I know a lot about it. It is easy access for me and I can get information on the events much easier than I will be able to get on anything in Turkey since I went only once and I am not there anymore.
Wrap Up
All of my images that I chose to consider for my table of contents page depict different locations or activities people can participate in when visiting any destinations talked about. This follows the conventions of travel magazines. I might take either Image #3 and Image #4, not both. This is because I chose them for similar reasons: they are both historical and can lead to an article talking about their past. Because of this, I will only choose one of the two. If I choose to include all of the article titles I came up with, I will not put them in the same order as they are now because there are many talking about Dubai at the very beginning and Turkey and Florida at the end. This may seem organized already but I want to make it look like my table of contents page has variety at first glance.
